At PFWL, we believe that praying for the leaders of the world can make a tremendous impact in the situations in their countries. Imagine if Omar Hassan Ahmed Al-Bashir, president of the Sudan converted from radical Islam to Christianity! The impact of such a high profile Muslim leader's conversion would send shockwaves through not only the Sudan, but through the rest of the Islamic world! This is the prayer mission of PFWL.com.
The basis for our mission is based on examples from the Bible, as well as from history. For example, consider the popular story of Meshach, Shadrach, and Abed-Nego. Their faith influenced King Nebuchadnezzar to the point that he made provisions and protections for the worship of their God, the one true God, and he even ended his life in submission to God (Daniel 4:37). Only the king had the authority to declare faith in God acceptable. When he did so, it opened the door for worship of the true King of Kings. The top-down influence had quick results.
Another example begins at Pentecost and stretches for nearly 300 years. The Apostles began a movement from the bottom of society, up. The began spreading the message of Christ, and between then and 313 AD, the Christian faith struggled to spread amidst conflict and turmoil thrusted upon it by the authorities of society. It was not until 312-313, when Constantine the Great converted to Christianity, that it was declared an acceptable religion by the government and society. Once that occured, the message of Christ was able to spread easier and faster. The bottom-up movement worked, but worked slowly. The top-down movement was instant!
Now, you might be saying, "Well look at what happened after those events: Babylon eventually went back to their old ways, and Christianity's prowess perverted their message over the years." Your absolutely right! And, it's possible that the conversion of a world leader and the acceptance of Christianity in a country might follow one of those paths. BUT, no one can deny the impact in the intermediary time, as the message of Christ is freely fed to a spiritually starving people. God's good grace will most definitely come to many hearts, and they will be changed. And if a country returns to oppression from a non-Christian ruler, there's nothing we can do about that except pray. But, if it should happen, how much better off will that country be because of the window of time that Christ was allowed to be freely shared with so many, and how great will the impact of those who struggle through their Christian faith in the midst of oppression be to those around them!
